Here is my livestream where I explain the details of why the announcement of CF Express Type-A Cards CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T are a big deal for Sony.

CF Express Type-A Cards CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T are addition to their existing CF Express Type-A Cards with 800MB/s speeds, except the CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T are with CF Express Type-B speeds upto 1800MB/s.

Product Pricing:

As of writing this blog on 12-Aug-2025, the pricing is not yet announced. I expect the pricing to be around USD 1500 to USD 2100.

The price in the screen shot is in Thai Baht as I am currently stationed in Thailand.

Quick comparison

Comparison of the specs from the previous models versus the new models:

You can read all about how great the CF Express Type-A Cards CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T are in the from this link.

In this video I want to talk about something different.

So, why are the CF Express Type-A Cards CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T cards a big deal?

The write speeds of the CF Express Type-A Cards CEA-G960T and CEA-G1920T are 1700MB/s compared to the 700MB/s in the CEA-G160T, G320T and G640T CF Express Type-A cards.

So far, for internal recording in cameras, these 1700MB/s write speeds were avaiable only with the CF Express Type-B cards for internal recordings of 8K RAW formats and High Speed recording formats.

Cameras such as the Nikon Z8, Z9, Panasonic cameras such as Lumix S1ii, GH7, etc makes pretty good use of higher quality recording options for professional shoots.

Sony’s maximum bitrate so far for most Sony cameras were 600MB/s mostly for S-I format. With the max write speeds upto 1700MB/s with the CEA-G160T, G320T and G640T CF Express Type-A cards, Sony probably is foreshadowing their newer cameras to have more recording options such as RAW recording capability.

These new recording formats for Sony could potentially help fight much cheaper consumer cameras from Nikon and Panasonic like Z6iii and S5iix cameras respectively.

We will have to wait and see if this happens. Fingers crossed.
